LOCAL LAND AND PROPERTY GAZETTEERS

pastarchives
Creating a gazetteer which is “fit for purpose” is not a quick job. This is primarily because each department will have variations in addressing, which again may differ from the Royal Mail address. Sometimes properties have been overlooked, or may be difficult to locate.

It is our experience that there really aren’t any shortcuts. To achieve a good quality gazetteer, each and every Basic Land and Property Unit (BLPU) and Land and Property Identifier (LPI) must be checked/corrected individually, on each and every street. Of course, this takes a considerable length of time, but experience and practice can speed up the process. And S2 has bundles of both.

How We Can Help

  • Gazetteer Creation
    • from core NLPG extract or from Intelligent Addressing data
  • Data Cleaning
    • improving textual and spatial location, street and property data
  • Gazetteer Maintenance
    • establishing dataflows, processing informant authority data, managing BLPU life cycles
  • Knowledge Transfer
    • one to one assistance and teaching for new Custodians or Technicians
  • Consultancy
    • on any aspect of LLPG creation, improvement or maintenance

An LLPG Custodian’s role is more than just data cleaning. The Custodian actively promotes the gazetteer within the authority, and to its customers and stakeholders. There is software to administrate and departments to educate. Doing all this effectively, and cleaning/improving data at the same time, is an enormous task.

S2 can deliver your LLPG faster and to a better standard than temporary on-site resources, removing people management issues and saving agency costs. We work closely with the local Custodian, providing knowledge and skills where they are required, and assisting the authority to set its own parameters where BS7666 allows flexibility to do so.

We also offer specialist help and guidance in linking your completed gazetteer to authority key services. Assistance can be given on the technical integration process and in the definition of revised working practices.
